The program that lets you copy DVD's with your CD-RW is almost every CD
burning programming. It puts the DVD onto the CD-R or RW in mpeg2 format
so DVD players can read it. They are called VCDs(video CDs) or s-VCD
(super videoCD. The biggest problem with this is 1: DVD companies cannot
sell VCD enabled players in america, you have to dig through the deepest
of deep menus in the thing (usualy a secret sequence of keys) to enable
VCD playing, dont't even bother e-mailing the company to find out how to
enable VCD's, they jsut tell you its illegal for them to have VCD
enabled in america, you can find the enable code at VCDhelp second, DVD
players are fussy as hell in what COLOR cd they wiull play, most will
only take a certain color CD, and even more require the CD to be a
re-writable. The best CD for attempting a VCD is the memorex CD-RW
platinum, it works on about 60% of the players. DVD players also burp
and sputter while trying to use VCDs most of the time. Playstation 2's
(for those of us that use them for DVD's" will NOT play VCDs at all
without a mod chip.
in other words... VCD would not be a good format to put the video in if
you would like to sell them...

IIRC, the expensive part of DVD production is the
recorder - which should go down. Also, there's this
little program out that's supposed to let you copy
DVD's using your CD-RW - don't know much about it, or
if it works for burning DVD's without one to copy
from, but it might be something somebody should look
at between now and 2004....
