The formatting that things like Word can do and
pure text can't, are rarely, (if ever), worth doing. Any
decent word processor will convert all the text location
based formatting codes to the space, tab and hard return
equivalent when saving as ASCII.
If your work isn't worth reading in text, adding
fancy fonts won't help. The few things that fonts actually
help with
As for big things, go check out some anime
fanfiction like UF and Twisted Path. Pure text, no
problems.
