Yeah, it'd not only be way over their heads, there are
some uber-religious folks that think anything
anthropomorphic is disgusting, sick and perverted.
They say it is a form of idolatry of animals, which
goes against the first commandment, and can be
consider graven images, which goes against the second
commandment.
These are also the same people that thing no-one
should watch Arthur, Dragon Tales, Clifford,
Teletubbies, Barney and Between the Lions, several
popular PBS kids shows that either 1) make animals
into characters that could have souls [animals do not
have them, by their definition], 2) downplay the
maliciousness of evil creatures such as dragons,
faeries, imps and gnomes [DragonTales and
Teletubbies], and 3) allows the belief of religions
other than their own brand, including magic [featured
in Dragon Tales].
I pity those weak, sheep-like simple minds. I've read
that stuff, and much of it is really outdated.
