The current '16 has a three-round burst setting, which may as well be full
auto. It's also not uncommon for the pawl that limits the number of shots
to three to 'break', or get bent out of the way, allowing full auto fire.

         That would be a cute trick, the current version of the M16 used by
the US military cannot fire full auto.
         Only the Marines train to use the M16 in full auto mode, and they
do not use it.
