Right on both regards. I configured Norton 2002 to scan >every< file
actively. When it finds Klez, it cannot disinfect or delete the
files. So I can only either quaruntine (which doesn't work) or leave
it alone to wreack havoc. I was told by the Norton tech support guys
this was because Norton can't differentiate between some strains of
Klez, because they're too similar (but different enough to make it
malfunction).
As for outlook; Indeed. Indeed indeed indeed. I switched to Eudora
for a while, but it's hard adjusting to a new mail client after so
long. And NS mail is just icky. I'm still looking, tho. Any
suggestions are appreciated.
I feel confident with both McAfee, F-Secure, and Vexira. But you
can't be >too< safe. (My favorite is F-Secure, and it's the only one
doing active file scans (email excepted) because McAfee and especially
Vexira tend to lag me much more. And McAfee has a smaller viral
database.)
Back to the last point; If you know a good mail client, please share.
I prefer client, not webmail. And using my current email addy is a
must, as well as porting inbox/outbox/etc. folders.
And finally, to keep relevant to skunkworks; Beware Bearshare.
There's a virus that spoofs it's name and fileize to match what your
searching for. it's fairly harmless, any scanner (even the dumbest)
can stop it.
And besides, 'Skunkworks.mpeg' seems a little too good to be true, anyway.
