hmmm...
I liked the article, made a lot of sense to me... I felt "different" from
normals almost all my life.
As a kid in school the only group that I felt ok in was a mismatched bunch
of kids who played magic the gathering and RPG's...
It was during college that I discovered the 'net. I began with chat rooms,
noticing I had a flare for the dramatic... that was lost on the regulars. I
found out about MUCKing and that's how I really got into furry. Hell that's
how I introduced my roommate, already a good RPG player, into the fandom...
Mucking is like the other side of RPG's where instead of stats and combat,
you play the character's personality and actually interact with others on a
social level...
I never fit into any group... I'm a little fantasy, a little sci-fi, a lot
tech geek, and every once in a silly while I'm cute as hell... Furry is the
only group where I feel like I fit in.
One thing I realize... Once you know about furry, you'll know if you are
one, without doubt.
I've been to Cons, and I've noticed we're really a patchwork of every race
and nation. We really don't _care_ where you came from, or what you are, as
long as you have an open mind.
I've come to realize that being furry has made me colorblind... I was
amused to learn that Max Blackrabbit was in fact African American, Not that
it made a difference to me.. I always thought of him as a rabbit!
I've met face to face with Doug Winger, Mitch Biero, Jim Groat, Even Jim
Hardiman. I've joked with Kjartan and Mark Merlino. One thing that I love
about furries is you can actually come face to face with the artists and
see that there's a person behind all that skill. Some you can even chat
with and actually socialize. Some of the stories told by the "elder"
furries are hilarious.
I still remember at the end of the Zoneycon I was able to attend,
practically the entire con went to a restaurant and took it over for the
evening. We had a terrific time.
I digress... What I want to state is my experience in the fandom has made
me proud to be a furry, and I feel I'm a better human for embracing the
furry view.
