Oh bloody {censored}ing hell... Can we please have the creator of this
poll dragged out into the street and shot... repeatedly... STARTING WITH
THEIR TOES AND WORKING THE WAY UP...
I am getting BLOODY sick of these rumors about "You need to check the age
in profiles" and "If there is no age or a low age in profiles, we'll be
deleted for having kids in the group." And trust me, if I could find the
people who start or propagate these rumors (Like the poll creator), I'd
string them up for the panic and damage they have caused the furry
community as a whole.
Yahoo doesn't have to delete the groups, panic is killing them
anyway! Some poor moderator gets ahold of this rumor, and goes on a
rampage of extra work and heartache, and EVERYBODY LOSES for it. All
because of, what the POSTER even ADMITS, is a RUMOR...
SO.
Let's get some fragging facts straight here.
Fact one:
Age in profiles means -NOTHING-. I don't know if I can tell you how
USELESS and MEANINGLESS it is without the ability to project 120 decibel
screams of "NOTHING!" over the email.
What DOES mean ANYTHING at all is the age you put in your information when
you first sign up... You know, that Birthdate thing... Don't believe
me? Then go log out of your Yahoo account, and sign up for a new account,
with a throw-away email address. Put your birthdate as 04/01/1988
(Underage! Woohoo! LIE to them! YAY!) and then sign in with this account
and TRY... JUST -TRY- to get into SkunkworksAMA or ANY OTHER Adult Group
of your choosing. Know what?! YOU CAN'T!! Brilliant, isn't
it?! YAY!! No Kids!!! Okay, STEP TWO... Sign OUT of that account, and
then sign back into yours, and THEN try to go into an adult group. "You are
about to access an adult portion. Click okay if you wanna and are allowed
to." -WOW-!! YET ANOTHER blockade! AND One that has legal precedent as a
BINDING CONTRACT, that means that neither Yahoo NOR the group moderators
are responsible.
FACT TWO:
Yahoo kills groups for three reasons:
1: Random Complaints (Which are tallied. ONLY. Not investigated.) Get
large number of random complaints? Poof!
2: ToS Violations (Which they can become aware of by complaints, as well as
random checks on "High Profile" groups.) What a sticky one THIS one
is... The ToS states that a group can be deleted for being "Pornographic",
"Objectionable" or "Offensive"... Does not state to whom they need to be
these things. HOWever, they keep a sharp eye out for "Fan Art" of major
studio characters.
3: Group Resource drain vs Group Income.... See those little click
ads? If we don't buy stuff or look at the ads, Yahoo doesn't make money
off the group. If we use too many resources, and they make too little
money, they consider us "Objectionable" and therefore delete us. Sad,
isn't it?
FACT THREE:
The age in profiles can say 16, and yet have the person be 21. If they got
their Yahoo acct 5 years ago. :P
Fact FOUR: (And a VERY important one)
Pruning people for not having the age in profiles generates random
complaints. Um, yeah, you know, those things that get a group killed if
there is enough of them? SOOOOoooooo...
> o No <<<---------- !!!
NO NO NO AND A HUNDRED TIMES OVER NO! Unless you want to put the group in
GREATER danger of being deleted than it already is just because we use
Yahoo. Every person you wipe out could be a random complaint that could
end up killing the group. And this applies to ALL groups.
Got It? Good!
- A very frustrated fox who doesn't even have a PERSONAL reason to
worry (Only one year behind on Profile) yet has EVERY REASON IN THE WORLD
to not want more groups to get killed.
