I've been hoping to break in to the furry-art gig/community for a
while now, and I've been honing my art for just as long trying to
make sure I'll have a good go at it. Of course, one of my main goals
was to make money at it. I suppose I never really did any "market
research" per se, but I always figured somehow that established
artists could make a descent living off of it.
I've been seeing the same thing discussed in this thread myself and
it kind of dropped my spirites a bit, I have to admit. But the truth
of the matter is that I've come to enjoy drawing furry art so much, I
don't care about the money as much as I did at first (I always loved
the art, drawing and admireing it, but money _does_ make the world
go 'round :P). I still plan to try out selling works, or maybe even
try a paysite like Bernal (if I ever get even close to that good),
but I wont quit on it if those things don't work, and I don't plan to
quit my day-job in freight-forwarding, either ;)
I don't think that anyone can really expect to make a living off of
freelancing art work to such a niche market (furry or otherwise).
Maybe if they were part of a well-known publisher/promoter or can
really market themselves. But auctions don't really seem to be the
way to go to pay the rent.
All that said, I still have the sketch of the sisters and thor that I
did some time ago and posted here. I hope to find time to dig it out
very soon and ink it for your viewing pleasure :) Maybe I can even
find a colorist out there that might be kind enough to color it *bats
eyelashes* Inking in Illustrator takes me a lot of time already,
nevermind trying to learn/use Photoshop at the same time.
Well back to work for me. Thanks for reading this long-ass rant!
Cheers all,
