Tabitha Portrait

Well I'm putting my money where my muzzle is and paws and
the paper! Just posted a pic to the Fanart section of
SAMA(see link at the bottom) that I used for practice of
drawing Tabitha. I suppose I should submit this pic to the
Draw Tabitha TJA comp, since you can have multiple entries.

This pic is largely based on Des' reference pics. Looked
long and hard at the pic of 'Tabitha hanging over the wall'
and came up with this. And not just because of the way her
front end hangs nicely over the wall neither! Angles are
similar, but not the same. Wanted to see if I could even
reproduce something to a standard to even bother submitting
to the comp. Colour is done totally from memory as for
some reason, of the four PC's I have (three at home that
day!) there were no colour pics of Tabitha to be found! So
any colour discrepancies are due to my memory... Only had
the B&W laser printouts I was using for shape references.
I sat there and thought "how would James Hardiman colour
this...". The result is not a JMH quality pic by any means
of the imagination (though maybe if you squint...), but it
is better than my previous pics. Just shows that practice
does improve your work. See Bondofox, it isn't just you
who benefits from doing more drawings.

Bought a kid's book on drawing animals that has helped
HEAPS! If I get sufficient interest, I'll sketch out and
post a 'cheat sheet' on how to get animal heads sort of
right for those of us who have no clue. It worked for this
pic, I reckon! Was sketching around and thought, "well, do
it and prove it to yourself." Since the sketch was sort of
vaguely okay, I thought I may as well colour it. The
finished pic is much better than the sketch! No ink at all
in this pic (except the title and copyright info).

Just had a look at TJA comp submissions. Oooh, there's
some tough competition, IMHO. But the good stuff won't
look as good unless there is some low end stuff to compare
it to, so I should submit for a ground reference. ;-)

So I throw this picture to a board of my peers (you lot!)
to get a feel for how you think I'm going? Pointers and
tips will be well received. Feel free to constructively
criticise (ie, you should change this bit...), most of us
have mothers if we want to hear "That's very good, dear".
If you do genuinely like it, you are allowed to tell me
that too! Should I submit this to the TJA comp? Would you
like me to finish the other pic (full body, G rated with
background, partially JMH and MBR inspired) and submit that
as well?

The ball's in your court, furs, give me a serve, what do
you think? Am I on the right track or should I stick to
writing?
