Sadly, it does. I wish it didn't, it makes my life tougher! ^_~
Unfortunately, there really isn't another printer for comics that we
can afford. Quebecor does lovely work (they handle Marvel, DC
and Image, among others), but they are located in Canada, and
the shipping to Texas would kill us. Also, it'd squelch that whole
"adult comics" thing we like to do- there are all kinds of crazy
laws about that stuff going in and out of Canada. Most adult
comics are printed at the printer we use- a lot of printers just
won't deal with adult material, sadly. There are a couple of other
small printers out there, but their quality level leaves a lot to be
desired, so we're kind of stuck. Fortunately, we've gotten some
good deals out of the situation, since the printers want to keep
us as clients! (We always make sure they get paid, and don't pay
them with bouncy checks- which is becoming a common thing in
the small press these days! Ouch!)
Thanks for the support, folks. It's been a tough year and knowing
there are people out there still rooting for us means a lot. It
inspires me to work harder! ^_^
Re: adult comic sales in Texas: mostly, it was a Dallas-area
situation that was caused in part by it being an election year.
There are also rumors that a local politician's wife had an axe to
grind against the store in question- she bought Pokemon cards
for her kids there and thought the prices were too high, so she
"got revenge". Yikes! That's a scary thought. Situations like that
are constantly happening, all over the country- so make sure you
vote and support the CBLDF! I think being able to read or look at
whatever we want (as long as it's not illegal and we're adults) is
part of our constitutional rights, and it seems like a lot of people
out there want to take that kind of thing away from us. It's
ridiculous! Know your rights, support people and groups that will
defend your rights. I'll get off my soapbox now. ^_^
Re: Our new shopping cart: It was *almost* live this last week-
and then we had the server crash. T_T There was much cursing.
Hopefully, the new cart will go live by the end of the month
(fingers crossed). We've got all the components together and
approved now- it's just a matter of making sure they all work
together. It's been quite a chore. No wonder web techs charge
so much for their services! (Pat is doing all the cart stuff himself,
except for the data entry on all those comics that I'm doing....
heh...)
Again, thanks for the support out there, folks. We do appreciate it.
I'm hoping we can keep going and keep making comics- it's not
often you get to do what you love. ^_^
