there isn't much to it. Just LEDs and resistors.
The challenge comes in getting the packaging right -- covering it,
getting the right power to it, selecting the right resistor values...
The one I'm working on will cover an area about the size of a book.
Covered in nylon to protect against shorting and to keep from
scratching or poking sensitive flesh. And it needs straps to hold it
in place.
And you need to be concerned about the high operating current of the
LEDs. This makes wiring a touchy issue.
And a power supply with enough juice to run it.
Of course, you need IR wavelength LEDs. I'm using a range of
wavelengths to make sure I hit at least some of the optimal
wavelengths.
While I'm working on this one, I'm also thinking about a workable
design for one meant to bathe the eyes in healing rays. A flashlight-
style means that your arm will get tired holding it up to your eye.
But I could make a small unit that would just hold the LEDs and would
clip on to an eyeglass frame. (One without lenses that might
attenuate the light.) So I'm trying to find some eyeglass frames
cheap, so I can experiment.
I could publish a schematic. The circuit is dirt simple. The real
work is in everything else. When I have time, I'll probably work up a
version that would fit into a flashlight.
