Footwear is a good idea in any place where idiots still break glass
bottles in public areas. Just because my paws are pretty tough from
running around in the desert without shoes doesn't mean I will go
bearpawed into the river.

I have spaces between my toes and yes, digitigrade footies do make for
some odd looking, from a hyooman purrspective, footwear. But thongs
work fine. And as a construction worker steel-toed foorwear is even
more interesting...
