   Whether it's comic, toon or realistic work the first rule for tools is
it's what feels best to you. Contrary to what some think tools don't
make the artist/illustrator.
    For doodling I would recomend, when not using scraps of your
usual medium, getting a clipboard and some plain copy paper or a
cheap sketch pad. Keep it handy and never be afraid to practice.
   Personally I almost always use pencils. Mechanical, drafting,
woodless and even good old #2. Whatever feels right at the time.
