Hi Su-Rai-Yu (Rachel?); You just missed the post answering
this question by a handful of messages. Sorry I was so
slow to reply, but that "Doing what I'm actually paid to
do" seems to be slowing me down recently. For those who
want JMH's explanation again, please see the bottom of this
post.

As described by JMH previously...
The full relationship between Onika and Treska goes back
to Onika's birth. Treska is about twice as old as Onika.
Her people are the protectors of Onika's race. Sometimes,
there may only be one protector for 2 or 3 families.
Nevertheless, whenever one of Onika's people is threatened,
the appointed guardian will sense the
trouble, as will all the other protectors nearby. It's
believed to be a psychic connection of some sort, but that
has never been examined.
Onika's people are primarily farmers. They grow the
foods which attracts the animals (which in turn are
consumed by Treska's people). Onika's race is called
"Asar" (pronounced "ah-shar"), and Treska's is called
either "Selkhet" (female), (pronounced "sel-ket")
or "Serkhet" (male), (pronounced "seer-ket"). The story
behind the origin of Treska's people is long, and I do plan
on drawing it one day (in the near future).
The Asar are child-like in their nature, whereas Treska's
people are not. They are emotionless, nearly untouchable
creatures whose sole purpose is to protect the Asar (who,
in turn, protect something far, far more valuable, although
they don't know it). The people of
Treska's race are power personified, able to maneuver
through wilderness and towns without being noticed. No one
knows where the protectors live. Their skin feels quite
similar to the surface of a just-polished-and-waxed car.
Very tough, and nearly frictionless.
The Asar's have great strength and dense skin, as well, but
they rarely have a need to use that strength (being
peaceful, as they are).
It is not uncommon for a playful Asar to engage in sexual
activity with one of Treska's people. The Asar are
extremely sexual by nature (they breed like friggin'
rabbits), and the Sel- or Serkhets do not mind the
diversion that sex plays.
Onika is very uninhibited and outgoing. Even on the rare
occasions in which she may appear to be alone, rest
assured, she is not. Treska protects her mainly from harm
and danger, though she does make her presence known when
things seem a little "unusual".
Onika is guarded so closely because of the huge role she
plays in a war in another realm, which involves the crew of
Caterwaul Inc,, as well as many of the people at the
Skunkworks studio. Onika is very close to her adoptive
friends and family, as well as the people she left behind
when she arrived at Valencia's homestead. Unable to
return to her home, she has befriended many people in the
Skunkworks world. Treska was able to find Onika by
locating another passage to the same strange world which
Onika now inhibits. Treska can return to her own reality
as she pleases, but Onika cannot, since the means of her
passage was destroyed, and one cannot return to the same
origin unless using the same passage.
Hope this confuses you more! - JMH.
Scrapper, Black Dragon, helping when he can. :-)
