Notice how with 4500 members we get about half a dozen
people passing back comments on even their work? :-?

Similar; I download them during the day then check them at
night, if I get time, since I'm in an office where
'checking pics' (especially some of the ones found on this
group!) is a good way to shorten one's career. :-/

I'm reluctant to give too much critique unless I know the
artist either has a good grounding and can utilise what I
suggest or approaches me for assistance, for many people
are just looking for pats on the back, as opposed to true
performance improving feedback. Subsequently they are put
off if I even suggest what are sometimes very minor
corrections (I've had it happen quite a few times).

You're making an effort and that is definitely a good
start. Posting on topic is to be commended too. If you
post a comment about your work, requesting others to give
opinion; about the situation, the character, the action,
something! Then people are far more likely to respond.
