Des won't be able to be here until Thursday, since she used up half
of her time off last time I was supposed to get the surgery. But she
called (a cuple of times) to make sure I was doing okay.
Went in around noon, and they had me partially sedated (I could
hear and respond, but the drugs they put in me made me real relaxed
and mellow). The cataract operation took anly 10 or 15 minutes, but
the vitrectomy took nearly three hours! (When the operation was
over, they wouldn't let me leave for awhile because my blood pressure
was 100/52. VERY low! There was a LOT of scar tissue, and the
retuna had buckled in a few places from traction. It was weird
because I could see the little fiber-optic tools (suction, scissors,
etcetera) in my field of vision for that eye.
The numbness has worn off and now my head and eye both hurt. I'll
be going in tomorrow afternoon to have the patch removed, and maybe
get some laser work on the right eye. Will keeo you guys updated.
I'm going to have some soup and go back to bed. Just thought I'd
post here to let you folks know I was okay. Thanks for all the good
wishes! Not out of the woods yet, but I'm getting there.
