Skunks are very clever as well, they don't just rely on their stink.
One of my neighbors had his garbage can broken into by skunks, (yes, there
was old food inside,) even though the lid is quite difficult to get off.
The skunk tipped the plastic garbage can over, and then somehow got the lid
off.
