Because, as I explained to my friend in NJ (whom I wish to move in with), someone suggested Chinchillas or ferrets. Now, I've been around chinchillas a little as my aunt had a couple of them when I was younger. They're WAY too energetic for my liking (and yes, I know skunks are that sort of way when young, but at least they grow out of it, chinchillas don't). As for ferrets... well... they scare me. They're too slinky-like and agile. My mom's friend had a few and I've never got on with rodents (rabbits, mice... gerbils... etc). Ferrets are just as creepy to me as anything like that. Skunks on the other hand are more cat-like, in both size (compared to a ferret) and cuddle-ness. I wouldn't trust a ferret to sleep next to me without a barrier of some sort being between us.

If I may make a suggestion, why not get a ferret instead? They're
related to skunks and much more commonplace as pets, and caring for
them would be relatively cheaper and easier because they're a fairly
common pet. They don't have big bushy tails but otherwise are very
similar to skunks in appearance and behavior.
Long Tom.
