Indeed. I'd probably think we're about as complicated
and sophisticated as an Apple IIe computer, or less,
when compared with the theoretical 'other' races in
the universe. XD
A discussion I had at work one night ended up with my
friend and I agreeing that, were the Earth and
humanity ever allowed into some kinda exo-solar system
alliance (fill in the word you want; Confederation,
Federation, Alliance, whatever), we'd probably only
have one major source of barter, next to cheap labour.
And I speak of our Video Games. XD
Can't you just see Earth being touted as 'Universe's
top exporter of entertainment systems!'. Alien races
billions of years further advanced, trading uber-tech
toys for our little entertainment consoles. XD
Alien: "So, what's that you got there?"
Human: "eh, just the Playstation XIX."
Alien: "... can I buy it from ya?"
Human: "What do you have?"
Alien: "I have a trans-galactic warship with weapons
capable of roasting planets..."
Human: "Keep going..."
or
Alien: "Is that a PSXIX?? How did you get one?! I've
got a warship that can frikasee planets... and you get
one of those?! Do you know how much those PSXIX's
COST?..."

"Strategic is when you get reports about fighting; Operational is when you hear shots fired; and Tactical is when you're taking fire." <-- Knights of the Inner Sphere adage.
"That which does not kill us makes us stronger...Or it just leaves us weaker for the next thing that wants to kill us. And the next thing. And the next thing..." <-- Ghost Knight Mason Dunne's take on the old adage.
