That book series... it wouldn't happen to be the Henry Huggins series would it? (I dunno if it's spelt right... but I've only ever heard of the series, not seen it before)

This brings back a childhood memory of a book series I read when I
was a kid about the different adventures of a boy in the 1940's (his
name was "Henry", if I recall correctly), and one of the stories I
read was about his having a skunk named "Aroma", and it was still
able to spray.

There was a reference to a commercial about an aftershave that
advertised its smell as "keeping you on your toes", and there was a
scene where the skunk sprayed in an area where said brand of
aftershave was spilled, and the odor was such that "it made you want
to close your eyes." The finale was there was a group of criminals
who gather in the room of a boarding house to sleep the night, and
Henry discovers them and decides to capture them by sneaking their
box of guns out of their room, and sending Aroma inside. The
criminals flee outside in a panic, and meet Henry who has a gun
pointed of them. Henry tells the gangsters to march to the police
station. "In our pajamas?" one wails. "And barefoot?" says
another. The answer is yes, and that's the story of Aroma the skunk.

Long Tom.
