Well, in order for me to travel to AC, I'd likely have to fly.
Seeing as how I'm not a big fan of traveling in aircraft, that really
only leaves the option of driving/riding there. This option, however,
costs a good deal of money and takes a fair bit of time (besides, the
big cruiser I'm building for long-distance traveling is not finished
yet). I do not drive cars anymore, nor do I have the means with which
to rent a car (I don't bother with credit cards or bank accounts
anymore).
My trip to MFM is essentially being paid for with money I've earned
from sales of furry artwork. I'm not using any of the money from my
mainstream stuff to fund the trip (I'm keeping both genres completely
separate, which makes it easier to control).
Unfortunately, as many of you likely know by now, the unending
piracy in this fandom has resulted in a decline in sales, not to
mention that the cost of production has risen over the years, and I've
not passed on that cost to the public. So, less money is being
generated from sales because folks would rather steal, er, "preview"
the art for free. Less money from sales means less money for furry
events, such as conventions. In the past, it would cost me anywhere
from $2,500-$4,000 to attend a furry convention. If I'm going to drop
that kind of money for such an event, I need to know there's a high
probability of making it all back, plus a profit. Since I currently
have no new folios or prints available (except the upcoming Bigger
Than Life 2), it would be extremely unlikely that I would be able to
cover my costs and make a profit.
It's possible I may be able to attend AC in the future, but that
will have to wait until my health situation has improved.
