Mmm, I do some DC and the occasional independent, but not much for a
while now, RL sorta stomped me pretty badly over the last six months
of so.
As to newer stuff, I might suggest anything by J Michael Straczynski
(yes that J Michael Straczynski), and Mark Waid often does good
stuff, Kingdom Come and his work on Flash and Fantastic Four come to
mind.
