Well, ligers and tigons are born sterile, but I think with more genetic
adaptability the likelihood of such things happening fade and the genetic codes
of the species become more receptive and acceptable of each other.

That is about the most realistic thing to expect in such a scenario.
And instead of going into an estrous cycle as it's actually called,
they go into a menstrual one instead. But the thing to remember is
that each species will still be genetically distant from one another,
compared with the entire human race persay (we are all 99.99%
genetically compatible).
Anotherwords, the furry hybrids end up being naturally sterile.
