By the way, back in the middle-to-late 19th century, the mustache to sideburns whisker
style was known as...

Muttonchops.

Admittedly there are several substyles of Muttonchops, from Elvis Presley's thick sideburns
that came all the way down to his jaw to Jim's mustache-to-sideburns rig, usually leaving
the neck and chin clear.
One of the neatest muttonchops I ever saw was trimmed to follow the mustache down to
the chin with about a 1" stripe in a Handlebar that then curved along the jawline back up
to the sideburns.
There were older styles as well, many noted American statesmen proudly displaying a
thick, apparently uncontrolled growth of hair in front of their ears and down to the jawline
but without mustache or beard (or with a definite break between such, like muttonchops
with a Van Dyke.)

Of course, modern bikers brought back the style in a modified form to add to their
individuality. Wish I'd seen Jim's.
