Unfortunately, the vast majority of mainstream comic artists draw
pretty much all their females with the same proportions, and often as
scantily clad as possible. While those artists like to portray a
female character as svelte and sexy, yet still muscular enough to
bring down an opponent three times their size, they often forget that
in order for the character to be able to do such a thing, she'd better
have the brass to back it up. Bear in mind, also, that characters
such as those portrayed in mainstream comics often use weapons and/or
special abilities which sometimes require the reader to suspend their
disbelief. ;)

The characters I draw are evolved versions of their four-legged
ancestors, and, as such, will often display many traits similar to
their unevolved kin. Wolverines and badgers are stocky, muscular, and
fiercely powerful creatures, and I've tried to relay those traits to
their evolved forms. This is why I tend to draw breeds such as
wolverines or badgers as thicker, more muscular or more intimidating
than, say, a skunk or a fox. Would you run from a fox? I wouldn't.
Would you run from a wolverine? Hell yes, man. ;P

Also, some of the more powerful members of Caterwaul may need to use
their breed-specific abilities or immense strength to stop opponents.
Make no mistake, in the Caterwaul stories, the good guys don't pull
a "Batman" and merely capture or render the bad guys unconscious.
Oftentimes, they will have to kill. Have you ever seen animals
fight? It can get pretty ugly. Now imagine them many times larger,
stronger, and more intelligent, and that's pretty much how the scene
would play out.

Not to say they don't have softer sides, though. Dinah is a real
sweetheart sometimes, and Leila can be gentle, if a bit gruff. But
for the sake of character illustration, I don't think a picture of
Leila wearing a Spring dress while picking tulips would have quite the
same impact as her wearing jeans, boots, a t-shirt, and a snarl on her
face.
