Hello all. I would like to toss in my two cents on this "theft" discussion. Now, coming from a not-to-wealthy family, I must say that some pirating is a GOOD thing. Also, it is a BAD thing. The good of it is if the art work does not suck, you can at least see why the artist charges for the work. Not for you to own it on the web, but to see it for yourself. It exposes new artists as well as preventing the case of an angry purchase.
Now the bad aspect is that it will deter new artisit from contributing and in addition stop recognized artists from wanting to continue to put new work out there.
It is a good/bad problem that can only be alleviated if people could understand the needed dichotomy of the problem.
If it wasn't for Jim's original art work that appeared in the comic book form and Reed Waller, I'd have never known that a "furry" is what I was. These people have changed my life, and to find out that the artists who contributed to who I am now need "real" jobs just makes me so very sad.
The issue lies honestly with the cost of having intellectual properties secured, trade marks bought and copy rights made.
To make a further point, I'd never would have joined SexyFur if not for some of the pirated artwork as I was once burned by a pat-to-see site that had art work of a sub-par nature.
This would be such a moot problem if everyone could draw great art work, lord knows I wish I could but seriously I have to label stick figures.
If only every artist out there had the financial where-with-all like Disney to pursue and prosecute those who did more damage then good, the whole culture could prosper but sadly it does not ad we all find ourselves suffering for it.
Support to all who strive for the things I have no talent for
