Actually, they’ve adapted by staying in the shade when the sun’s hot, exactly as you say.  This tends to prevent sunburns.  You’re leading to a circular argument, though, since, being nocturnal because their prey is clearly doesn’t work fo rabbits, since plants run away just as well at night as they do during the day.  Of course, there’s something to be said for hunting when your prey is asleep, too.  It’s much easier to chase sleeping rabbits.

But do they burn?  Being a creature of the desert they would've adapted to the environment.  The ears are used to cool themselves and regulate their body temp hence the large surface area.  They would seek shade or shelter if the temp got too hot.  Their being nocturnal may also mean the prey they hunt is also nocturnal as well.  If nothing else what about the rabits and hares or the desert areas who also have large ears as well don't seem to have this problem you speak of.

This still fails to explain fennecs, who would be subject to sunburn if they werenʼt nocturnal.  Youʼre just digging yourself deeper and deeper.

Is this a world where humans never existed?  before being touched by human hands, they never had this problem.  The critters mentioned below were the product of meddling monkeyboys making creatures to suit their agricultural needs or fancy.

Oh? What about porcine or hairless felines? They burn. So do some short hair breeds and other critters.
How again is sun block useless?

A useless item sold in a furry world?

Sun block lotion.

Name other items found in this world not helpful
in furry worlds.

Furry joke:

Q: Why did the lady laugh at the door-to-door salesman?

A: He was selling sun block lotion.
