Re: Adaptations of everyday items?

Especially for those with thicker, meatier tails, things like
operating tables would probably either have a hole, or a depressed
groove running from the table's midpoint down towards the feet.

Toilets would also need a re-thinking, if only due to sheer size
differences. a mouse kid could probably drown in the toilet that a
12-foot tall horse might use.

Care for fur and hides, especially if a species is out of their
element (much hotter/colder/wetter/drier than they're used to or
adapted for) might require something like a spa or specialty salon to
keep fur and skin from suffering.

Medicine might be specialized to deal with several dozen physiologies,
including a few alien ones. (treska, onika, etc) Drug effects,
interactions, etc. might be completely different for something as
similar as felines vs canines, for instance. Heck, even something as
simple as dentistry would get far more complicated due to all the
different body sizes and tooth/jaw structures. If you thought that
the toothbrush selection at the grocery store was overcomplicated now...

Public transportation would either need seating by size and species,
or benches/seats that could be easily reconfigured.

Houses themselves would be species/size specific, too. There would
probably also be some kind of etiquette about how much room your house
has versus who you invite over.

Any number of tools and devices would also have to account for these
massive size differences. Just try to watch a Clydesdale try and
borrow a mouse's cellphone and tap in a number without hitting wrong
keys or just crushing it, or watch that same mouse then try to pick up
and use a five-foot long wrench that the horse can lift in one hand
without apparent effort. On that note, computer interfaces would be
specialized, too.

Musical instruments are a whole world of their own, again, especially
since so many of them have direct relationships between the notes you
can hit and the size of the instrument, and that's putting aside for a
moment the different mouth/muzzle shapes, hand shapes, claws getting
in the way (no need for a guitar pick!) and pure reach. A dragon's
Double Bass would probably be bigger than my car.

With all of this, plus probably quite a lot more, i'd wonder if
there'd be some kind of board set up to try and accommodate everybody
without discriminating, and to arbitrate when needs of different
species came into conflict.

Hope that helps.
