Want some cheese with your whine? Hahaha! You know I can never
resist sparring with you, man. Anyway...
Veronika's face was always kinda long. In fact, in the recent
sketch, true to your observation, I think I drew it just a tad too
long. But this time around, I'm basing each character's head off a
modified skull structure of whatever animal they represent, rather
than using the older method of basing skull designs off modified
circles. It allows each specie to be unique and individual, since
we all know animals have quite a range of differences between
species.
They still have the feminine body shape (wider hips, narrow
shoulders, etcetera), although some characters can't really be drawn
_quite_ to those proportions (Leila and Dinah, for example).
Wolverines and badgers are short, stocky creatures. It wouldn't
look right to draw Leila looking like Twiggy, now would it?
The pencil sketches are actually a few steps back from realism. I
drew a few pictures (Valencia, Desiree and Crystal) that were
definite "uncanny valley" territory, and I knew folks wouldn't like
that. The pictures looked real as far as their construction went,
but it was a creepy kind of real. And I didn't want that.
I'd thought about posting a joke sketch I did awhile ago showing
the trio in a "new style". They looked like realistic, short, dumpy
skunks, standing on two legs, with tits. It was hilarious. But I
rather suspect not everyone would get the joke...
