#1 way to stop virus infections: patch regularly.

Turn on automatic updates (even pirates get those), and if windows
says "I have new patches", install them IMMEDIATELY.

All the major news-hitting viruses (storm worm, conficker, redalert)
have come out over a month after the vulnerability was patched. Why
hunt for a flaw yourself when you can reverse a patch, and take out
all the silly people that never installed it?

Patching regularly will ward away 80%+ of computer issues.
