I've been to a number of cons, and for the most part, they're not
really like that. Or at least, not these days; there *was* a time when
that sort of outrageous behavior was more openly tolerated or even
encouraged -- but even then, I seem to remember that the really infamous
"problem child" stories mostly originated from one or two specific

conventions, and those cons have either collapsed and disappeared, or have
since come under "new management", as it were, and are considerably less
tolerant of it. (If nothing else, if your con gets a reputation as a
freakshow, it makes it very hard to negotiate good contracts with a hotel,
so if you want your convention to even be *around* 3-4 years from now, it's
in your best interest to keep a lid on things.)

Mostly, the "weird fetishes" are confined to the contents of people's
sketchbooks; the only "fetish" I can recall seeing commonly displayed in
the last few years of con-going is the wearing of collars and sometimes
leashes which, frankly, seems fairly tame to me... I certainly don't
recall seeing anyone wearing nothing but a diaper, or boinking plushies, or
hiring out their dog... (At least not in the public areas; what they get
up to in their own hotel room, with the door closed, I wouldn't know -- but
as long as they *keep* it in their room with the door closed, IMO it's
their own business.)
