Well, for one thing, I do as much research as I can on a potential site before going there. I will not check out any place that has had negative activity (scene of a murder, ex-insane asylum or prison, scene of violence, etcetera) because I don't think being around negative energy is a good idea.
I've looked into a few different paranormal research groups within the surrounding areas. It's mostly just a hobby, really. I don't get all the equipment that the serious researchers have, nor do I conduct the the kinds of experiments they do (a serious researcher will bring various cameras, EF meters, devices for recording EVP's, and so on. They'll also scope the place out and take measurements of the atmosphere, such as humidity, temperature, etcetera, any other pertinent information such as the phase of the moon, any possible nearby sources of heat, electrical or magnetic radiations, and the list goes on). The purpose of the serious investigator is to find the most logical explanation for the event. He/she investigates all possible reasons until they are all ruled out. If this is the case, then the event is most decidedly "paranormal".
I just like to check out the area and see if I can pick anything up. I also like the opportunity to research the supposed event. Sometimes you can find the original information about it, such as a newspaper clipping or by talking to older residents of the area. Sometimes you only find out the entire thing is bullshit, either made up by some people at an earlier point in time, or nothing more than a mis-located version of another similar story/haunting from another area or state. There are several legitimate hauntings around where I live, and they have been researched and verified by numerous groups.
I don't think any of the characters from Skunkworks/Caterwaul would attend to any paranormal event, since they'd have the ability to sense that stuff far earlier than we humans. Ever seen an animal act spooked around a haunted site? Same thing, man. That's one of the hurdles I had to figure out with the whole "Penance" storyline for Caterwaul.
As for personal experiences, yeah, I've had several. But this really isn't the place to discuss that stuff, and some of it I'm still trying to research to prove validity.
