A haunting is similar to a ghost, in that they are events that, like a recording, are played back when conditions are right. There are several Civil War battlefields near where I live. If you go out to some of them at night, you can hear men talking in the woods nearby, footsteps passing in front of you (but no one's there), cannons and gunfire going off, etcetera. It is merely a playback of an event which had a high level of emotion or trauma involved.

A spirit is more interactive; it does not stick to a story or event like a haunting or a ghost. There are several places within my town and the ones surrounding it, where there are purported spirits. Several occurrences have been investigated by legitimate parapsychologists and others.

I think, in many cases, it's not that someone sticks around to seek revenge. I think they simply do not know they're dead. Someone killed in a suden accident may not know they are dead. Other examples could be that the person may have unfinished business which is binding them to this plane of reality, even after death. And still other cases may be that the deceased may not want to leave someone they love behind.

In any case, this stuff, much like religion, is debatable. Some folks believe it, some don't. And that's fine by me. As I said earlier, I believe in what I see and experience first-hand. I do not believe in any sort of religion, but I do believe in spirits and hauntings.

As for what I've seen or experienced, I would really rather not go into that. Besides, this is not the proper place for such a topic, and I think the entire topic may have derailed a more on-topic thread...
