I live in the city, and sometimes I mistake the panicked cries of a rape
victim for a ghost. Of course, it's exactly as likely to not be a ghost as
that screaming in the woods is.

Patrick, I've spent a lot of time in the woods and other wilderness areas
and unless you live in deep desert or on the Antarctic ice shelf, you'll
have racoons. As for the noise, it depends on if there is also a female
around that is looking for some nookie. There are also other critters that
sound like a woman or child yowling. Some are particular breeds of coyote,
cats of all types, foxes and so on, and are also very vocal when in season.

Then again, you may have had some truly freaky stuff happen near you. You
could always go through police records for your area to find out.

There is no such thing as a dream that you cannot obtain.
You may have to work for it, however.

Ok, we have racoons here in my country (it's not actually mine)but not in
the region where I live and I don't think that they make their noise at
exactly the same time two days in a row
