The new style is a pretty good break from the old
style. Enough to think another artist applied
his/her ideas as to what Onyx could look like from
a more realistic point of view.
The new style is different enough that if Jim drew
both styles, placed within exact same scene, one
style would be out of place for that scene.
Which means Jim may have to change how the
characters will be portrayed in a scene and
how the scene itself will be build around the
character; far more work to do than with the
old "cartoony" style.
If done right the new style will allow Jim to
expand any story plots to say drama, other than,
just cartoon comedy; adult and non-adult.
There can be still comedy but just a different
type of comedy - not the Road Runner kind of comedy.
(I hope Jim still plans to draw in the old style
as well.)
I see a lot of ink work if Jim tends to faithfully
render those fur lines. (Maybe Jim can push it off
on Des...)
Has Jim done any ink testing to see how the new
style looks?
Pencils and Inks are two different "animals";
sometimes a new style in pencil doesn't work
as well once inked. (Pencils are warmer, putting
more life into a character; Inks can be colder,
less life like.)
Waiting to see foot-paws in new style.
