Depends what you mean by 'more prominent'; within the story itself or better known within the fandom? Within the story, you just focus the writing more about that character. The fandom - excellent question! Have to get more images (written and pictorial) into the public eye in locations where people visit, so they see them and want to see more.
Bad-ass is a matter of action and opinion, so depends on how much a character may do a certain style or type of thing will determine how much 'focus' and how much of perceived 'bad-ass' they are. And of course it depends on 'how' this occurs whether they are then perceived as goodie/badie.
