Actually, humans are damn effective hunters even without tools. Our advantage
is in that we have incredible endurance for a land animal, partly because our
lack of dense fur keeps us form overheating. Humans are one of only two
species that use persistence hunting. Unlike wolves, we can do it solo.
The lack of natural weaponry is a red herring, after the initial sprint those
weapons are irrelevant. The human has either escaped and is uncatchable, or
the humans target is too exhausted to fight. It's easier to just simply
state that the changes in deep prehistory simply buterflyed hominids away for
no particular direct reason.
