No, no. The protector would need to retract the spikes so they could slide downwards on their backs if necessary. Since they travel by land and by trees, they may need to slide into crevices or squeeze through narrow passages. It's not something they would use every day (hence, why the spikes are naturally extended), but it makes it easier to fit into tight places. They can lower their quills quite flat against their head and backs, but protruding spinal hooks would cause an issue if they, too, couldn't be flattened out in some manner.



Also, her species is not a "natural" species, in the sense they evolved over time. They have this present form because their ancestors made a decision to go to a time/place they weren't supposed to be at yet, and as a result of this intrusion, their physical forms were drastically changed to what Treska and her ilk look like now.
