Pretty much, all that has really changed is the specific topics that people go
on about.
There are more people now, and webfora don't have to deal with autoflamewar
crossposts, (although the topic involved in aff's regular such still shows
up). IRC spillover is largely gone, but the response cycle time on
boards/groups/etc. is short enough that those fights have their entire run in
a single place.
If you're looking for a quiet place to talk furry, one of the better places
ATM is, (ironically), alt.fan.furry
