Because you had to join AND Confirm joining in order to get onto it.

Look at the bottom of the email. See that "Unsubscribe" link? Use it!
That's generally the only way you can get off. Failing at that, you
will just have to put up with getting email from a group you
specifically joined until a mod takes pity on you and takes you off.
Probably by banning you, which puts a black mark on your record, so
should be avoided of course.
