Sounds like a TV program called "Sliders" where a genius found a way to travel
between alternate universes like ours but different.

Subject: [SkunkworksAMA] Re: O.TQuestions About the Girls and Caterwaul Solar
system

Their world is basically an alternate-reality version of ours. Same solar
system, same planets and moons, same territory. The main differences are that
the animals evolved instead of the humans, and because of that evolution,
certain aspects of their Earth are going to be different than they are here (no
WW2, for example).

Despite having the ability to travel through space, they have not encountered
any alien life forms yet. Although Onika and Treska are most certainly alien,
they do not originate from the same reality as the Caterwaul and Skunkworks
characters. (Think of the various realities as a room full of mirrors, each one
reflecting a central object differently. The further you get from the object,
the more distortion you're going to have).
