Yes, programs like MS Word have 'other versions of English', Australian being one of them. Means it tolerates the Queen's French version of English (has the extra U in colour and other such interesting variants).

Pretty much what happened after the pilgrims sailed off to Yankland, the Poms and Froggies formed alliances, marrying royalty off to help keep the peace and decided to add a bit of French to the spelling to make the Frogs feel more at home. The Skippies (Australians) are a more recent development, so we use the 'Frenchised English', cos that was what was in vogue at by that stage. So there is a fair chance that American English is closer to the original, how ever you care to measure that...

Just think - with things like Jim's world and anthro animals, speech and text may have a large part for communications, but I wonder how they go with the body language, scents and other things when it comes to recorded media. Just like we mis-interpret what is being written due to lack of visible cues from the writer, I wonder if they have similar or more issues due to lack of visual and scent ques?
