One thing I was thinking of were dragons, I know you had one in “Ups And Downs” that was quite large.
I have this tendency to think Nature favors the smaller, heck, just look at the more successful largest land and sea animals, elephants and whales.
Outside of whale hunting, the smaller whales simply are better adapted.
Likewise elephants, even the largest known elephants are smaller than their mammoth ancestors.
So the smaller dragons would fare better.
One of the characters I created for myself is a small (7 feet long) dragon, from a planet called “Draconia.”
He’s a security officer on a starship, here he is arresting one of those pesky “hyoomans.” <G>

There are 22 species and approximately 75 breeds of anthropomorphic creatures in the Caterwaul/Skunkworks world. In earlier times, various breeds would have been differentiated from one another based upon their environments and other genetic factors. Polar bears, for example, would have obviously come from colder climates.
But with the marvel of transportation and a society that allows its citizens to travel from one country to another without much hassle, it wouldn't be uncommon to find different species in non-native environments.
If you were asking about having certain species represent particular ethnic groups or cultures, then the answer would be "no", as that's not limited to one's appearance. Case in point: the trio was born in Orlando, Florida. Val was born in Vermont, a rather fair distance from Florida. Angeline Lumiere was born in St. Etienne, France, a hell of a long way from Florida! Denise Walker (from Lot Six) is from New York, and has the sort of behavior and mannerisms one might expect from someone who grows up in a rough city. All these characters are skunks.
Certain species are prone to be more focused in certain areas, however. Dragons live in Australia, similar to the Aborigines in our world. They mostly exist outside of "normal society" and have their own language. A kangaroo can be from New Jersey, Sydney, Australia, New Mexico, Japan or even Egypt. It doesn't matter what species they are; their "culture" is dictated by their environment.
