The other species of humans that were around with us were Homo Neanderthalensis and Homo Erectus. Homo Erectus went extinct from the Toba Eruption, but Homo Neanderthalensis went extinct from a number of factors (one of which would have been warfare with us Homo Sapiens). The entire species of Homo Sapiens is 99.99% genetically compatible with each other, while Homo Neanderthalensis was 99.5% genetically compatible with us (not sure about Homo Erectus though). There is genetic evidence that some modern humans, European peoples to be exact, are carrying Neanderthal genes.

If these species hadn't died out, then the nations that exist today would not be existing; nor would our civilization in its current form for that matter. Racism would have definitely been taken to a whole new dimension, given that they were more genetically distant from us.
