Well, for one thing, if a politician is not doing the job he/she was elected for, he/she is removed from their office and replaced. All terms are limited and once the term is served, the politician returns to his/her previous job and life (if they are not re-elected). They do not continue to receive the pay or benefits they had while in office if they are no longer serving.

Any politicians found guilty of activities that endanger the welfare of the country are either imprisoned or executed, depending on the severity of the crime. One such example of this is even mentioned in Caterwaul. The rules are supposed to apply to EVERYONE, regardless of who they are or what they do for a living. There are, of course, those who break the rules and, sometimes, they can get away with it. But if they are discovered, penalties are harsh indeed.

Bear in mind, their is less privacy in their world than here (so far), since most cities are under surveillance by authorities. Governments differ from one country to the next in terms of what the ruling parties are called and the finer details of the political system. But in their world they have something very close to a world government. It does not, however, keep people from trying to overtake the governments and install their own ruling parties.
