Well, as an artist myself, I can say there's nothing wrong with a cartoony look or even vast details. Doing one or the other doesn't make anyone less of an artist, just a preference the artist has.

It's possible for me to do highly detailed art, but normally doing such things results in hand cramps ^^; So I opt for mid-ground with my art.

Yeah, Naylor tends to focus on the ass and genitalia of the characters and seems
to disregard the rest of the anatomy (faces, hands, feet, musculature, etc).
Then again, it's cartoony, so maybe that's just his style.

That was one of the things that got me to improve my artwork; Terrie Smith had
mentioned, many years ago, that I made some parts look realistic and the rest of
the image was left relatively bland. And that's why you can count the number of
hairs any character that I draw nowadays might have on their body. Details
galore, man.

The redesign of the characters and the redefinition of their world has helped to
flesh out these details. Some species are digitigrade and some are plantigrade.
This results in different styles of footwear as a result. Just off the top of
my head, I think the plantigrade species are limited to alligators, crocodiles,
lizards, chameleons, bears, raccoons, aquatic species and porcupines. There are
probably others on that list, but that's all I can remember right now.

Digitigrade species (such as felines or even the skunks) would stand on the full
foot, but walk on the toes, leaning forward and using the tail as a
counterbalance.

Most shoe designs would allow for the claws to be useable if necessary, but
full-coverage shoes and boots would be required for any sort of work such as
construction or anything where the foot might be in danger of getting damaged.

One of the primary things I was trying to outline in the redesign of their world
was the fact that these creatures are NOT human, and as such, would likely not
have the same habits, rules or standards that we have. I would expect footwear
to be common and required in urban areas, as pavement is hot and debris could
cut or hurt the feet. Of course, don't be surprised if you get a hair in your
food. After all, most everyone there is covered in it! ;-)
