Ok, here comes another long-winded comment from the old fox.
My character ideas tend to come from gaming in one genre or another, though tend to go beyond most games' original concepts. My character Rhiann, of the Sa'uk, was originally created in a tabletop RPG called SuperWorld, which I believe was later acquired by and integrated with the Champions series. Her history, however, is another story. The concept itself was inspired by Susan Van Camp's "Bird Herder" paintings which are long lost but well remembered. I created an entire world for her people and their opponents the Pardu, based on another Susan Van Camp painting of which I still hold a print.
My third best-used character of whom I have a full novel and several pieces of additional work written is a genetically-engineered fox by the name of Tracker--or rather Jon Redd, code-named Tracker. The difference for him is that he starts out as the sole bipedal 'Fur' in a world of humans; created as a spy and a weapon for a seditious organization but who switches sides when he realizes that all he's been taught is wrong. Of course, he's got more than just his vulpine senses going for him as his creators went to a lot of expense to make him far more than what he appears. Think Steve Austin as a fox and you'll get close.
Unfortunately, I have no artistic abilities and have to rely on prose to paint my pictures. I keep hoping to find an artist with enough interest in my stories to help me develop them as graphic novels for sale, but so far the ones I've talked to either want all the money up front--not relying on their art to sell the story, or unwilling to put in the effort it will take to make the story appealing to the eye.
I do have other story ideas, often that come out of my dreams. I just don't tend to remember enough details to build a full story off of them; but you can be sure foxes and wolves are usually the main characters.
