I got lucky with regard to forming seat belt habits. My father was a school teacher and I used to ride with him to work. :) In 1968 when I started learning to drive I was driving him to work. I went to the high school he taught at. He taught me to buckle up before before I put the key into the ignition. There were no exceptions allowed. So it became something I do before starting up a car the same way that you would put on your pants before you go outside. You don't think about it. You just do it. I don't walk out of my house naked and I don't start my car before I buckle my seat belt. To me personally it's the same kind of thing. I feel the same way about having a passenger in my car with his seat belt unbuckled. The car doesn't start until everybody is buckled up.

On the other hand I'm very much afraid that an electrical system problem will deploy the air bags and lock my steering wheel while I'm driving down the interstate at 60 mph. That actually bothers me.

I'm sorry to hear about your pain situation. I can't say that I've been there but I know just enough about pain in smaller amounts to know that I wouldn't want more of it nor would I wish that on anyone else.
