Don't even need that complicated - power can come from anywhere (run through regular power lines), then can use either maglev or 'rail gun' style principles if you want things to be really zippy. Can't see them rolling out overhead gantry style power (like trams / trains) as per the movie Super Mario Brothers for cars - more likely to go the battery route, but it currently is used for trolley buses, trams and trains! (San Francisco for example).
You can get power, especially solar nearly anywhere, so if you can get a grid connection, or a solar panel on your car park (saw these in California - use the solar panels to build car ports at service stations), you can charge batteries while not driving.

All the biggest vehicles are electric. Whether diesel generated electric, or mains supply. The giant crawlers in the mines are driven from the grid and locomotives are either grid supply (suburban style) or diesel electric (due to not always having power feeds). The world's most powerful locomotives are effectively driven by electric motors! Things like ships may provide more of a connection challenge...

Peter - I'm holding off on approving your posts, as they are quite long and I'm sorry to say not well researched. You're talking about an area that I have many years expertise - you'd be best to Google and find decent proof (or at least references) for what you are claiming, as much of what you suggest is 'junk science'. Not trying to rain on your parade, but trying to steer conversation towards the Caterwaul future, which is supposed to have far better technology than ours.
Scrapper, Black Dragon, the difference between Science Fiction and Science Future is whether they've worked out the details yet.
