Allegedly he had registered copyright on various images or characters or similar, so he certainly intended to protect them for the future. Why bother if you didn't care if they just turned to dust?

I think he was actually pleased to see fanfics in respect to he felt pride in having inspired others to want to facilitate his characters. Although we were often some-what off-track with his preferred character portrayals, he still enjoyed reading the wild rides we came up with.
